First Marathon Giveaway!!!

So since you guys are so great I'm going to have a giveaway to celebrate my first marathon! I want to thank all of you that have supported me though this process in training for my marathon. These last few weeks have been nuts, so thank you to all of you who've left comments of encouragement. It's really helped me. I can't wait to see how things go on Saturday. It's going to be a great day!

Onto the giveaway....
The awesome ladies at Runningskirts.com are donating a skirt to help celebrate!!
One lucky gal will win a skirt.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE their skirts! I'll be wearing my brown one during the marathon. :)
----------------------------------------
Another lucky winner will win a pair of Stuffitts shoe savers thanks to the great people over at stuffitts.com

I'm thinking I'm going to have to get some of these for after Saturday cause heaven knows my shoes are going to be begging for some love. :)

To win one of these great prizes this is what you have to do:
(Leave a comment for each thing you do.)

-Go to Runningskirts.com and stuffitts.com and tell me what you love about their products and which product you'd want.

-Follow my blog and let me know if you are a new or old friend. :) The more the merrier!

-Give me some kind of tip that you think would help me with my marathon.

-What's your pre-race routine for the night before until you cross that starting line?

-Spread the word! Blog, tweet, Facebook, whatever...tell everyone about my giveaway. You get an entry for each  thing you do.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Giveaway ends Saturday night and the winners will be posted Sunday morning.
 Good luck!!

the night before I make sure that I am well hydrated. The night before my first marathon I only got 2-3 hours of sleep (i was nervous AND taking care of a really sick husband). If you are up late and nervous- just make sure to lay down and close your eyes so you are resting. I eat a light dinner and try to eat it a little earlier. In the morning I am sipping water right up until the start. I also eat cereal and a banana for breakfast.

I really really need something to help the odor problem in my shoes -- these would be awesome!

I really would like one of the polka dot skirts -- love 'em!! I have the perfect matching polka dot bondi bands!!!!

I just finished marathon #2 and survived a "closed course" within my time goal and PR'd. The key to my success in the terrible conditions was my handheld water bottle. That thing was AWESOME. I didn't even know I was carrying it the entire 26 miles -- until I needed it. I also kept stuffing Gu packets in it from the water stations. It was my life saver! GOOD LUCK!

The night before my races, I try to get sleep. This especially goes for the night before that even. Before my marathon I put the kids to bed 30 mins early and then hit the sack at 8:00 and was out like a light. I make sure that I set all of my clothes/fuel out two days before so that I'm not stressing the day before my race. Sleep and rest is key!

another piece of advice that I learned the hard way...don't chug water even if you feel uber thirsty. it won't sit very well in your stomach. at all

I love the look of running skirts, but have never bought one. Why? They actually kind of intimidate me! I'd love to try it out though!

One Crazy Penguin said...

I've only done one marathon, but my best advice is to just enjoy the experience. If you think of it as just something to get through or to finish it won't be nearly as fun as if you enjoy the experience and take in all the sights and sounds!

I LOVE running skirts! I really love their HautePink Dot athletic skirt!!!

Jenna Z said...

At first I thought they were inflatable. After visiting stuffits, I now know they are filled with something but I couldn't really find any details about what that is. Or how they work.

Jenna Z said...

Be sure to monitor your water intake the day before and make sure you're getting enough. That way you'll start out with a full tank.

Jenna Z said...

Two bottles of water, light dinner NO cake. Choose music for iPod, read start time one last time and print directions if I need to. :)

I have never tried running skirts, but would love to try the pink plaid one

Canadian runner said...

My current wet running shoes, could use these. I had never heard of them before today.

Canadian runner said...

I recently ran my first 1/2 marathon and for me controlling water intake on the course would be my tip. Also bodyglide !

Canadian runner said...

For my 1/2 I had everything ready to go the night before, I was up 2 hrs before for breakfast

Marathon Tip: Don't overtrain. It can lead to injury. Slow and steady will help you build the mileage you need and race your race with no drama!

Anonymous said...

ok another tip...make sure you've tried the one course sports drink before the race

Anonymous said...

Pre Race Routine: Night before I make sure I hydrate well and I usually carbo load with a basic meal like pasta. I also like to be well-rested the night before a race.

Pre-race routine: Do as much as you can the day before ie: layout clothes, etc. so you have very little to think about on race day other than running. Trust your training!

Unknown said...

Night before prep:
Place your timing tag on shoe, race bib on shirt, make sure ipod is charged and get to bed early.

Unknown said...

My best marathon tip: before putting on your sock's, drench your feet/toes
with vaseline. It wick's away sweat and helps protect against blister's.

I love the running skirts! I would love the Solid Pink (for the cause)

gba_gf said...

Running skirts are the BEST SKIRTS EVER!!! I love them... and my next purchase will be the Green Plaid! I am going to rock out my marathon in it. After all, I rock out every other race in one, so, have to stay true to form!

gba_gf said...

If you're feeling "down" at any point, shout "NEED MORE COWBELL" at the spectators. i promise, someone will have a cowbell, and the other runners will crack up! I used it as my mantra, and I swear, it's what got me through.

gba_gf said...

pre race routine... pack my stuff for the race (assuming it's an hour away). unpack and check it again. repack it. put my road ID and my Chip on my shoes *if the ID isn't already there. check the bag again and zip it. have a little snack. Pin my pins on my bib. Put the bib in the bag. Go to bed. Get up and make sure my heart rate monitor is in the bag along with the watch. Obsessively check that the alarm is set.... You know, I'm not the BeST person to ask about this, perhaps someone less neurotic would be more help?

gba_gf said...

By the way, congrats on your first marathon. Enjoy it. Savor it. It will only be the first one once. I'm a (new) follower, and can't wait to read all about your marathon.

I know it's a little late...but make sure to cary something to eat! My favorite is the Mojo Cliff Bar in the peanutbutter/pretzel flavor. It has some nice salt which is good on the long hot runs, as well as its yummy, easy to cary along and easy to pull pieces off to eat along the way!

jamie.louise said...

What I LOVE about running skirts....is the brief instead of the compression shorts, so there is nothing to ride up, plus it is the only running skirt I know of that has TWO great pockets to hold your stuff in. Plus, they are ADORABLE! I would LOVE their Fleurs skirt, but they are all out, but I think it would be super fun to have like the aquatruse.

My prerace routine was to eat a light meal and then to drink LOTS of electrolite (sp?)water. And then ate a light breakfast of toast/butter and my morning coffee. Then more water.
