Sony Walkman Review AND Giveaway! (Giveaway Closed!)

After trying it out for a week here's what I thought.

· Design – its lightweight, water-resistant frame ensures proper functionality during extended periods of activity inside or outside – even in the rain. CHECK! It's so lightweight that you don't realize it's there. The only thing I've found is when I ran hard it kept falling out of my right ear. But, when J wore it he had no problems and they stayed in just fine.

· 2GB of maximum capacity – holds approximately 470 songs CHECK! I was able to load a whole audio book on it with room to spare.

· Quick Charge Option – for on-the-go or those who have forgotten to charge, charge 3 minutes for up to 90 minutes of play time. Full battery life is approximately 11 hours CHECK! I really liked the quick charge option.  It makes a difference when you forget to charge it and only have a few minutes before you're ready to go.

· Easy Music Transfer – Content Transfer software allows users to move music files and playlists straight from a PC/iTunes library Meh, so, I'm sure it would have helped to read the directions more, but it wasn't THAT easy. And I'm sure it's easier if you're just doing music. But it took me over 45 minutes to figure out how to load a audio book on it and then make sure it was all in the right order.

Pros:
-Light weight
-No wires
-You don't have to carry around an iPod or try to shove one into a little pocket.
-You can load a bunch of songs on it.
-It sounds really good. It sounded like the music was in my head. It wasn't muffled or anything.
-It's really cool how the two ends of the earphones are magnetized and connect together for nice storage.

Cons:
-Fell off my ears while I ran. (Might just be cause I have little ears or something cause J didn't have a problem.)
-Audio books don't work with it especially if you hit the wrong button. It'll reset the whole playlist and you'll have to search through the whole thing. Which isn't fun to do while you're running.
-The pause, play, and skip button are all the same button. The only thing that's different is how you push it. Which is kinda confusing when your running, but it gets easier the more you use it.
-It's kinda futuristic. At first I felt like I was wearing a bluetooth in both ears. Which can be a pro or a con depending on what you like. :)

All in all it's a good device. I'd recommend it if you don't want to shell out a ton for an iPod and if you hate the wires that you have with an iPod. J likes it so much that he's already claimed mine!

Now for the fun stuff!

GIVEAWAY!

-Follow my blog. Let me know if you already do or if you're new! (Required)

(Disclaimer: I was given a Walkman to tryout and review, however my review is entirely honest.)

I think my favorite thing is no wires getting all tangled up when I run!

My favorite memory of old Walkmans was going on vacation and not having to listen to the music my parents were listening to. I felt so grown up!

Right now, my favorite feature is to be able to listen to music! I don't have an ipod or any music player for that matter so whatever it does is better than what I've got!!!

I used to have this old school Madonna mixed tape when I lived in Hawaii and ran home from work!
I had to run very gently with a CD player so it wouldn't skip!!!

My fave part about the walkman is the lack of wires...I always struggle to figure out what to do with them!

I totally remember the tape style walkmans..can't think of a funny story, but I totally remember that funny sponge like covering over the headphones!

I loved holding the play button down halfway on my walkman to warp the singers voice. :)

I don't think I had an old Walkman pre-CD. But back in the day I was a technical writer who sat in an infernal cube all day writing about industrial crap and the highlight of my day was playing Depech Mode CDs on my Walkman!

My favorite thing about it is that you can upload the songs into it, which is kinda new for wireless ear phones!

Question; How do you handle getting chased by vicious dogs while running?

Annika said...

Oh I used to use my Walkman all the time, had stacks of cassette tapes! One funny memory was that I remember my dad getting one of those sporty looking yellow ones for himself and I got really jealous! Looking back now I think they were hideous!

Thinking back on Walkmans makes me feel old. I remember being a little kid and there being warnings on kids TV shows about wearing walkmans while walking down the street. You wouldn't be able to hear the cars, so it was too dangerous. I definitely like MP3 players more than the old cassette and CD players

I really like the quick charge option (think they could do that for my Garmin?)

I remember pretending to speedwalk with one clipped to my hip when I was a little girl. Cuz CLEARLY that was the cool thing to do. :D

any my question is this: now that you've been forced back to swimming, how long do you think it'll take before you do a triathalon? I think it's just a matter of time.

I'd love the quick charge! I don't want to count the number of times I've left the house and had my iPod die within 5 minutes...

Walkmans remind me of my first cassette tape. Child of the 80s that I am it was Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" and I played it all through the summer. Maybe I should put that in my running mix...

Do you have any nutrition tips/websites/books that you can recommend for marathon training? I'm starting to train for my 1st in June and that's totally the area that I'm falling down in.

My favorite feature is the quick charge. I always forget to charge anything and everything that needs charging.

Alinda said...

I used to have a cassette player and play my favorite cassette (Roxette) over and over until it snapped. I was so desperate, I used tape to fix it and it worked :-)

definitely the quick charge would be my fav. feature; we are forever forgetting to charge our phones, our iPod...good thing our camera doesn't have a charger (although our video camera does and I rarely have it charged)

S Club Mama said...

I don't really have a fun memory about Walkmans but I definitely remember using them. I would listen to my mom's tape of Madonna (or my dad's...not sure which) and rewind Material Girl over and over (and over and over).

S Club Mama said...

so I'm so behind because I'm new but why did you decide to do a marathon?

I remember thinking I was very cool because I had a walkman. We'd huddle around the ear phones to listen to it on the bus on our way to basketball games and trackmeets
