Mom and I got on the 4th bus up. We walked up and down the street a couple of times once we arrived at the start. The weather was nice and cool. We were thankful we brought our jackets. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxZIVOjwRUt7Q1VoO57_LTwYzKCmGludiTGDXjCFyreNJKDyTJfX0xddYZwR_kOZpr-L3oRH4bEqwt-AB5wC0kKTFD7Up5fxJHUDxRh3YJj-VkIlTipsOlz5m7VG36aRdaC0x3G_Pdn_Q/s640/blogger-image-740076399.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxZIVOjwRUt7Q1VoO57_LTwYzKCmGludiTGDXjCFyreNJKDyTJfX0xddYZwR_kOZpr-L3oRH4bEqwt-AB5wC0kKTFD7Up5fxJHUDxRh3YJj-VkIlTipsOlz5m7VG36aRdaC0x3G_Pdn_Q/s640/blogger-image-740076399.jpg"></a></div>The sun came out and it was time to line up to run. The steep downhill mixed with the slanted road pulled on my muscles hard. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Adam called around mile 8 and told me not to start walking. I figured it would give me plenty of time to get to the Oval on time to start the race at 8. I woke up around 6:30, but went back to sleep. I was a little nervous about this race the couple days leading up to it. I was nervous that it would be like the Salt Lake Half and I hate the feeling of crashing, especially at mile 6. I was so tempted to not run this one. I was also having problems with my levothyroxine meds and had to get off of them. I was having major full body fatigue and horrible brain fog. A couple days of getting off the meds, I switched to Synthroid and I feel a LOT better. I feel back to where I was before the medication, but not 100% yet. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, I knew I couldn't back out, my momma was running it and I didn't want to bail on her! She has been training so hard for this. I get all my determination from her. :) </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The race start was beautiful, as always. It's always so nice up the Provo canyon. The weather wasn't too bad. It was chilly up there, but not as bad as last year, that's for sure. Mom and I brought our race blankets with us and it kept us warm. I met up with a few of my running friends. I knew the awesome Susette would be pacing the 2.10 group and my plan was to stick with her for a little bit and then pass her up and not let her get in front of me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I said goodbye to my mom and the race started, I stayed with Susette until about mile 3 and then left her behind when we were weaving through people on the trail. I was feeling good. My mind was pretty clear compared to Salt Lake City Half. My muscles were feeling good. The miles ticked away and I was still feeling good around mile 6. I kept telling myself the goal was to stay under 10 minute miles and I was doing a pretty good job at that. Around mile 8 I took a GU just to be safe. I didn't want to crash. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIsn516tZSrhSQUQQk9sDmr5-9i9QuK06jG4j_v6IPA61L0m4Bp7MWg7wiGOQUIzuPRvzmElE8a_hNKxMBFldpNeZ7evhcCaCmqJ-QglWGeSm33RVcTrTWoh04zO2NijmUenXp47zgf9c/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-05-05+at+12.28.56+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIsn516tZSrhSQUQQk9sDmr5-9i9QuK06jG4j_v6IPA61L0m4Bp7MWg7wiGOQUIzuPRvzmElE8a_hNKxMBFldpNeZ7evhcCaCmqJ-QglWGeSm33RVcTrTWoh04zO2NijmUenXp47zgf9c/s400/Screen+Shot+2015-05-05+at+12.28.56+PM.png" width="268" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mile 10 came and that's when it started getting hard. I don't know if it was the sugar from the GU or what, but I was starting to crash and was doing a walk/run. Around mile 11.5 I hear Susette, "Cathy!!! Don't let me pass you!!!" I turned around to see her while I was walking and picked up the pace. I booked it for about a quarter of a mile before I started feeling it again. I could see the finish line, it was only a mile or so away by this point. Susette caught up to me and wouldn't let me fall behind. I fell behind at one point around mile 12.5 and she says, "You'll get 2.08 if you finish now!" So, I took every bit of energy I had and booked it at a 6 minute pace for the last .10 of the race. Sure enough, I finished at 2.08.45! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hung around with my dad for a little bit and then we walked about 2 miles up and caught up with my momma. She did great! She finished in 3.31. Not bad at all! Way to go momma! I love being able to do races with my mom. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the race we went to Cafe Rio and headed home. I felt really good during this race. My mind was clear and my body was feeling good. I didn't feel the full body fatigue like I did last time and I really think it's because of the different meds. </div>

My next race is the Utah Valley Half. I'll be running it with my 2 brothers, my mom, and my sister. It'll be a great race! </div>

The alarm went off at 4 AM. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I got dressed, woke up Becca, and we headed downtown to meet up with Sonja and AJ. It was fun talking and walking around downtown so early. We parked about 4 or 5 blocks away, got down to the TRAX and saw Sonja. We were just about to get on the train when we realized we left Sonja's packet down at the car. Ugh! We walked all the way back to the car and got it, but decided to drive up closer to find a parking spot. We found the perfect spot about 2 blocks from the starting line. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We caught the TRAX and headed up to the start. I've never done a race before that uses corrals and this one was doing it for the first time this year. I kinda liked it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Before the race we did a half mile warm up around the track at the U. It was a nice track with a great view. I try to warm up a little before each race and it was really nice to be able to run around this track instead of the roads/sidewalks like I normally do. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Becca, Sonja, and I before the race. These ladies are the best. I just love running with them. :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The race started and Becca and I were in the E corral. We went to the back of the corral, which was nice because we didn't have to deal with a lot of pushing through people. The race started and I felt great. I was averaging a 9:30 pace for the first 6 miles. At mile 4.5 I took a couple chomps and got some water at the aid station. I felt like I needed to take something so I didn't crash. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Around mile 6.5 I started slowing down. I took a GU at the aid station and got some water. My body was aching all over. It was a feeling I never really felt before. Kind of like every muscle in my body all the way to the top of my head and to the tips of my fingers ached. And it wasn't like a painful ache, but more of a completely drained ache. I slowed my pace and tried to take it easy. Around mile 7.5 there is a nasty half mile hill and I walked it. I knew I'd totally be burned out if I pushed up it instead of walking it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mile 8-10 I tried to get out of my head, I walked 2 or 3 two minute breaks and then kept running. At mile 10 I kept saying to myself, "Forget all the other miles... This is just a 5k. You can do a 5k. It's just a lap around the lake. You can do this..." It really helped to stop thinking about my body aching and to slow down my pace to something comfortable. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There was a group of drummers around liberty park that were amazing! It made me think of when we lived in Okinawa. That really helped get me moving. Even though my pace was slower those last 3 miles, they were comfortable and I felt pretty strong. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Becca ran with me for the first 4 miles and then fell behind. She caught back up with me when I was walking at mile 8. We ran together some and around mile 11, she fell back again. I kept going. I wasn't going to let myself walk those last 3.3 miles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Can I just say...if you're planning a race, please, please, please measure your race correctly. People running a half and a full marathon do NOT want to run extra. I know it sounds funny cause we're already running, but it's tough mentally. Plus, it throws off our times. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOy7tnB9Ksw97vxynyevK4S5hiAmj2GNMiOUTMmw840MGM-du22G0bq3axDe5pvIG3lS6rH657Hy7WMSx3oD0evlS2ihbS1mGUUcQ4SxqCLa5tdZ77_lwO3GZEqwk8d7oAc6nc4HYqX8M/s1600/image1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOy7tnB9Ksw97vxynyevK4S5hiAmj2GNMiOUTMmw840MGM-du22G0bq3axDe5pvIG3lS6rH657Hy7WMSx3oD0evlS2ihbS1mGUUcQ4SxqCLa5tdZ77_lwO3GZEqwk8d7oAc6nc4HYqX8M/s1600/image1.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All in all it was a good race. It was tough, but good. My body ached like crazy when I crossed the line. My lower back ached the most. It's been aching a lot for the past 2 months or so. Maybe it's from picking up my pace and tight hamstrings. Maybe it's from the Hashimoto's. I don't know. I'm hoping it's the tight hamstrings. </div>

The medal was pretty cool. It even doubles as a belt buckle. :) </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had a great time! I love it! Next race is Provo Half in May. I'm hoping that since it's a canyon run it'll be a breeze. I'd love to beat this half's time. We'll see if I can do that. :) </div>

They did the normal stuff... checked my weight, height, blood pressure, blood work, etc. A couple days later I get an email saying my blood work results are in. I don't think much of it cause I've never had any problems with anything physically. I've always been the boring patient with nothing to report. I check the results and see<br />
<br />
"<span style="color: #1065a5; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, verdana, arial; font-size: 11px;">thyroid is showing low (when the TSH is higher like this is showing, the thyroid is actually low). We need to repeat this and a few other thyroid tests to be sure it is actually low</span><span style="font-family: inherit;">". </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Ok, That's weird... I've never had any problems with blood work before. Everything always come back normal. So, I call them back and see what I need to do to get retested. I go back in and get my blood drawn. Of course while I'm waiting the next few days for results I'm googling everything about low thyroid and what that means. The first few things I read point to Hashimoto's. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Hashimoto's can be explained <a href="http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hashimotos-disease/basics/symptoms/con-20030293" target="_blank">HERE</a> and, well, it makes a lot of sense and explains a lot of why I'm tired all the time and lately I've been feeling like I'm about to get sick, but nothing happens. I get the sore tired muscles like I'm sick. I thought it was just the time of year, but no... it was my body. A year or so ago I went in to my OB to get my thyroid levels checked because I was feeling tired and he said it looked normal. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> We were headed out of town and it just kept nagging at me. I wanted to know what the other results said! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">We get to Oregon and I see that the results are in. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">"</span><span style="color: #1065a5; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, verdana, arial; font-size: 11px;">this indicates that your body has created antibodies to your thyroid which is why your thyroid is currently on the low side. </span><span style="color: #1065a5; font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, verdana, arial; font-size: 11px;">This indicates your thyroid is slightly low. We should start on low dose replacement,as this may get worse due to the antibodies your body is making against thyroid. We will call in prescription.</span><span style="font-family: inherit;">"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Ok, well... I'm in Oregon, a few states away... do I wait until I get home or do I call the Doctor now and find out what this is and what I need to do? He hasn't called me and I'm really wondering. So, I call him up and get the nurse. Ugh... CALL ME BACK!!! I wait and I wait and finally they call me. The doc doesn't sound concerned, says it's Hashimoto's, and makes it sound like I can wait until I get back, but I don't want to wait for the meds. I might as well start them now. I want to have energy again. Yeah, I've been running and training and I feel alright when I do that, but after I'm SOOO drained and before I run it takes everything in me to get out the door and run. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Well, he ends up sending my prescription to a Target in Oregon and I start my meds right away. The whole time I'm in Oregon I'm noticing every little ache, every tired muscle, every lack of interest in things and I have to tell myself to knock it off. I've lived with this for heaven knows how long and just because I know what it is now doesn't mean that I should let myself become defined by it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Jason and Derrick gave me a blessing after I got the official diagnosis and that always helps. It also helped that the friends we were staying, the wife, Missy has something similar and takes the same meds. So, it was really nice to talk to someone about it all. She said the meds would start kicking in around 2 weeks. I can't wait until that happens so I can see if the meds help. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Another thing that was interesting was how many people came out saying they have thyroid problems when I said I had mine. Why does no one talk about it? Is it that normal? A couple of my cousins have thyroid problems, my aunt, both of my grandmas... I never knew...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So, this is the beginning of my Hashimoto's journey. I'm interested to see how it effects my running and weight loss.</span>Momma Twitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372034791390267228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-847616140660480002.post-21834491240543454842015-03-22T18:41:00.001-06:002015-03-22T18:41:56.043-06:00Riverton half<div style="text-align: center;">
Oh, Riverton.... Such a good race, my first race, but also a pain in the butt race. There are 2 nasty hills on this course. The first at mile 7 and the second at mile 10.5. </div>
<br />
I got to the race about 45 minutes early and NO one was there. The only people were those setting up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIPBohEPiSayC4hTJHhStfZ54ltEJBrJjSXsqWuvf1rRch28TktVXCXQFlV-na-Du_ii_HBU-gniOf3PQqFJAy74YwHdfp43JgfA-Z-cpAzdxnEu2vtbGc-N-l8cdMHQsZyUFhL2AUXBs/s640/blogger-image--2044134197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIPBohEPiSayC4hTJHhStfZ54ltEJBrJjSXsqWuvf1rRch28TktVXCXQFlV-na-Du_ii_HBU-gniOf3PQqFJAy74YwHdfp43JgfA-Z-cpAzdxnEu2vtbGc-N-l8cdMHQsZyUFhL2AUXBs/s640/blogger-image--2044134197.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I waited around and ran a little until I found my friend Catherine and then met up with Rendi and London. Rendi was pacing the 2:20 time and London was doing the 2:30. My goal was to stay in front of them the whole time. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The race started and I kept telling myself that I needed to take it easy the first half so I could push it the second half. The first 4 miles weren't bad. I felt nice and strong then around mile 4.25 we turned and were facing a nasty head wind. I knew I could keep going how I was going even with the headwind, but it was really starting to wear me out and I knew the first big hill was coming up at mile 7. I was determined to run up every hill. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I saw mile 7 and that big hill. There was this lady with a double stroller who was pushing 2 kids. She tripped me up around mile 3 with the stroller and then I caught up with her at 7. I felt for her having to push the stroller up that hill. It was NOT going to be fun. I pushed up that hill and didn't look up until I reached the top. Hills are tough and I know that I can bust through them if I just don't look. Hahaha! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVbSDBDrwZeHQRIc43jigD7Msd45X3nNSPadu3f6-9BpeJpkQmEC5oUAu9lMOsEPniEwn2KkJXY1U4e-ExEW1mTakmuSxcXpY_dr3QNyqwoPyextmCxtli2r8_sjIAhfVupwXfgkSnZOk/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-03-22+at+5.59.47+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVbSDBDrwZeHQRIc43jigD7Msd45X3nNSPadu3f6-9BpeJpkQmEC5oUAu9lMOsEPniEwn2KkJXY1U4e-ExEW1mTakmuSxcXpY_dr3QNyqwoPyextmCxtli2r8_sjIAhfVupwXfgkSnZOk/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-03-22+at+5.59.47+PM.png" height="120" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can see the nasty hills and when I stopped to walk for a minute. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Around mile 8.5 I could feel myself starting to crash so I took a GU that I brought with me and stopped at the aid station and got some Gatorade and water. I was still having a bit of a hard time until this one guy, I don't know who he is, caught up to me at the aid station and stuck with me until the end. I'd walk a little before a hill and then run up it and he'd walk the hills and run after. We cheered each other on to keep going. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I knew when we got to Redwood road that we were really close. 1.10 miles to go.... or so I thought. After Redwood we used to turn down the main road to the park and be done, but noooooo.... This year they added on some more turns. You run right back that main road, see the finish, and still have to keep going. I ended up going .17 over because of that dumb turn. Talk about getting in your head. I kept wanting to stop, but we were so close and the guy kept saying not to quit. We finally turned onto that main road and I just started booking it. I finished that last .27 fast and strong. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was so done and so happy to be out of that headwind. I finished in 2.18.31. (2.17.06 at 13.1) I did good and met my goal of staying in front of Rendi and London and getting a new course PR. I even shaved 30 minutes off last year's time. AND I'm 25 lbs less and a lot stronger. :)</div>

My next race is Salt Lake Half, I'm excited to see how that one goes. One thing for sure is I'm going to drink more. I think I got dehydrated this race. </div>

I was really nervous about this run. I've never hit an 8 minute mile unless it was down a canyon or that one time I tried to do it at the lake. At the lake I got it done in 8:51 and that was in July of last year. Today, I was aiming to get each 1600/mile done in 8:48. I didn't know if I could do that 3 times in a row!<br />
<br />
Well, the warm up mile was 10:32. Tempo mile 1 was 8:29! Then mile 2 was 8:32 and mile 3 was 8:32!!!! I stopped once for a 5 second breather halfway through mile 2 and 3. But still! How awesome! I am feeling so much stronger. I was hitting that pace without feeling like I was killing myself. I LOVE that I am feeling faster and stronger.Momma Twitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372034791390267228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-847616140660480002.post-78626850813063887322015-02-28T12:56:00.001-07:002015-02-28T12:56:12.978-07:0010 miles<div><br></div>Yesterday I got up and was debating on if I should do my 9 miles then or wait until Saturday. I wasn't dreading the run, but I was a littler nervous. The goal was 9 miles at a 10:36 pace. I knew it was doable. I did it once before. But last week I was scheduled to do 10, but only ran 9. So, while talking to my mom I decided to run 10 instead of 9 to make up for last week. <div><br></div><div>My mom asked info was going for pace or distance and I said a little of both. So she had the idea to run the first half uphill and the second half down. It sounded like a good plan. </div><div><br></div><div>I had somewhat of an idea of where I was going to go, so I headed out. I figured it wasn't too windy so I'd go with the wind to my back first since I was going up hill. I felt good and strong and around mile 4.5 there was a nice hill. It went down and then had a slight uphill. Not bad... I ran around in a neighborhood until I got to 5 miles and then turned around and went back. </div><div><br></div><div>I don't know if it was the wind or the fact that the hill I ran down was a LOT steeper than it looked, but I was feeling myself starting to drag. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5FMzxTry82Gi84kZXGqfaq-NktNGX8lV4B5DxlL-KecFY8M40bRQCM5CKZ5yn_m498mlcXbjSt_XKaQIk-7N6RMFSQMHTvQsSZQhGi-VfhYg_Cr8S6C4Wqw18Oo4oPepNd9XLL4Z93g4/s640/blogger-image-1788962771.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5FMzxTry82Gi84kZXGqfaq-NktNGX8lV4B5DxlL-KecFY8M40bRQCM5CKZ5yn_m498mlcXbjSt_XKaQIk-7N6RMFSQMHTvQsSZQhGi-VfhYg_Cr8S6C4Wqw18Oo4oPepNd9XLL4Z93g4/s640/blogger-image-1788962771.jpg"></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Miles 5, 6, and 7 were tough. I was supposed to be going down hill but instead I was climbing back up and this time I had the wind in my face. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Around mile 8 I was back to the lake and I knew how it felt to run around that. I picked my pace back up and finished strong. My slowest mile was mile 7 at 10:51 and my fastest mile was mile 10 at 9:23. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">There were plenty of times I wanted to stop, but I didn't. I kept going. I keep telling myself that I can't stop if I want to run a sub2. Im cheating myself and I'll never learn to run at a consistent pace if I don't train myself to keep going. I gotta work on the mental game. The stopping is all in my head. My body and legs ache, sure, but it's not like they haven't hurt worse. When I want to quit that is when my body/mind is reaching another level and I have to push to get there. Now I just need to be consistent and keep up with my training. </div>Momma Twitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372034791390267228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-847616140660480002.post-21102999888178069372015-01-01T20:39:00.003-07:002015-01-01T20:39:46.811-07:00New Years Revolution Run<div style="text-align: center;">
This morning I got up at 7 when my alarm went off and headed out to the Olympic Oval to run the Revolution run. I was excited for this one mainly for the fact that last year it took me 3 hours to run it. I knew that I would do better this year, but I also knew that I hadn't run a real race or much running since the Saltair Half in early November. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I met up with my friend Sonja and started running some laps. After about 3 laps we saw Becca and she started running with us. I felt pretty good for the first 20 laps and then my right thigh started aching. I have this one pair of shoes that are made for over pronating, and I don't over pronate. I think the turning of the track combined with the shoes made my thigh ache. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I ran with Becca and Sonja for a while and then took a little break. I then ran with Shelley and Meredith for a while. They really helped me get past the mental block of running laps. Meredith was having Shelley run fast and then slow and I just followed along. I took a water break and then finished the 48 laps with Becca. I think with all the stopping and talking I did made my time 2.46. If I would have run/walked the whole thing without all that I would have been closer to 2.30. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All in all it was a good race. I felt good even with having not trained. I even beat last year's time. :) My next race isn't until March or April. We'll see. </div>

We went down to Provo and stayed in a hotel over night. The kids thought it was tons of fun. We ordered Pizza and had popcorn. I got up early and headed down to the race. I was planning on staying with Becca the whole time. The goal was a sub2 hour half marathon. We started the race strong. We were on goal to be way under 2 hours.... well, that was until it leveled out around mile 9. UGH! That's when your body says "Hey! wait! Where'd the momentum go??" That's when we started to crash. I ended up running it in 2.05.09! SO close!! I was SO exhausted at the end.<br />

Jason and I got up early and headed over to the church to meet up with my mom. We were about to run the 5 mile temple to temple run. It would be from the Oquirrh Mountain Temple to the Jordan River Temple. I ran this one last year with my mom and we kept it at about a 15 min pace the whole time. This year I'd be running with Jason and then catching up with my mom after. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
When I woke up I got a text from my mom that she was wearing her Return With Honor shirt. I totally forgot about that, so I went through my drawer and found the one I wore last year. Holy cow! It was HUGE on me. I went through the kids drawers and found my 8 yr old's shirt. Haha! It fit!! I was so surprised! Talk about feeling good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We started out and mom said to go ahead without her. This was Jason's first 5 mile race since high school. The goal was just to run and have fun with it. He did awesome! He tends to start out too fast and then slows down towards the end. Around mile 3.5-4 he was saying sorry for slowing down and I told him we could walk if he needed to and he said "Twitchell's don't walk!" He did amazing! We ran the whole way and finished in 52.09 minutes! After we crossed the line he said his knee was bugging him so, we walked around for a minute and then walked to meet up with my mom. She wasn't very far behind us. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I was so impressed with her. She ran it with at a 12-13 min pace! I love that woman! She's so amazing. Go mom! Go mom! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We all got some popsicles at the finish and took a couple pictures by the Jordan River Temple. I love being able to run with my family! I hope to be as awesome as my mom when I grow up. I'm so proud of Jason. I think he's starting to catch the running bug. :) I love it! He's such an amazing man. I'm blessed to have him as mine. </div>

I got up at 5:30, got ready and headed up to the Porter Half finish. While waiting for the bus to come I met one of the ladies from our running group, Marisa. She's a great lady. They bused us up to the start and I met up with some other friends and started the race. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I started out WAAAAY too fast. My first mile was 8:59. Haha! After that mile it was all down hill. Well, kinda. When I was signing up for this race I looked at the elevation and it totally looked like a nice gradual down hill. I thought it'd be super easy and nice. Yeah... not so much...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was hilly and level. It was a tough course! I'd rather have all down hill or flat, but not that. Around mile 8 I was really feeling it and by mile 9 I was doing a lot of walk/running. Mile 12 was a 14:22 mile...Ugh. Oh well, I felt really good in my legs, but it was a real mental game. I need to get out of my head and just run. Anyway, I ended up finishing in 2.25.23. Not bad! That's my 3rd fastest half. It's amazing how far I've come in the past 8 months. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my running friends, Robert, was getting pictures of people from the group crossing the finish line. That's my picture. I look SO much different from the start of the year. It's really amazing how far you can come when you work hard. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a tough race, but it was great to be there with friends. :) Next weekend I'm running The Nebo half. I'm really hoping for a sub 2 hr half. We'll see what I can do. There's going to be a lot of us from the group running that one and a few of us aiming for a sub 2. </div>

After the race I thought it would be a good idea to have fresh legs for Nebo, so I picked up a bag of ice from the store on the way home and took an ice bath. Sooo cold, but it really helped! </div>

My calves are a little sore, but I think they'll feel good on Saturday. </div>

On Friday I decided to run fast. I ran the first 2 miles around a 12 minute pace and then decided to run my 3rd mile as fast as I could. My fastest miles have been going down the canyons during a race and they have been in the low 9's and I really wanted to prove to myself that I could run a mile on a normal course (not down hill) in the same pace. I really surprised myself! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I ran it in 8:44!!!! What?! I haven't run a mile that fast since elementary school when they had us run the mile for the presidential fitness test. I even felt like I had some gas left in the tank to keep going. This week I'm going to go farther. I'm thinking a mile and a half. I really want to get stronger and faster and to do that I have to practice going fast. This course even had a couple up hill spots! </div>

This mornings' run was about telling myself that it's ok to run after a bad race. Yesterday I <i>tried</i> to run. I took about 10 steps and said, "Nope... not today..." I kept telling myself that I didn't want what happened on Saturday to happen again. I didn't want to get sick and I didn't want to run sick, but I wasn't sick on Monday. I was fine. I rested the rest of the day Saturday and all day on Sunday. I felt fine. I felt like I was recovered, but mentally I still had that half weighing on me. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, this morning I got up and saw how beautiful the sunrise would be and got out the door. I walked down towards the temple and the skies were almost purple. It was so pretty! I told myself I'd walk the first bit and then start running. I wasn't aiming to run any particular amount of miles. I just wanted to get my legs going. I started out after I got some pictures of the sunrise and the temple. There was a lady walking behind me and I didn't want to do the whole walk and her catch up to me and then I'd pass her and she'd pass me and all that, so I ran. Those first 10 steps almost made me stop, but I kept going. I don't care what the pace was and it wasn't going to bother me that I wasn't listening to any music. I just wanted to move. The first mile came pretty easy actually. I just trotted along. Then the second mile came and I felt stronger and mentally I thought, "I can do this... What was I worried about?" The 3rd mile felt great! I was running laps around a little section until my mom came, but I didn't see her so I went off looking for her. I was a half mile in and thought that maybe I'd just run the full 5 miles. I was almost at 4, so what's another mile? I was feeling great. Then I saw my mom and finished the last 1.4 miles with her. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My goal every day is to get 5 miles in. It doesn't really matter to me the walk to run ratio as long as I get those 5 miles and hit my 10,000 steps on my Fitbit early. Haha! This morning when I got home, Jason and I got to work on our 30 day challenge workout. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfkrWmJQ1xrlT6rcGfxARes3CN_JsYh3nsdhxocAVW5is8rdAOuQODPCO6mF4tqI15D1F3UqBX8x8KH-4FQHnJp0jJUJEEE00KntH26gNuPdX0ENCLhSmsIF9bg9ObBc8iEyvgddCFmP8/s1600/IMG_0037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfkrWmJQ1xrlT6rcGfxARes3CN_JsYh3nsdhxocAVW5is8rdAOuQODPCO6mF4tqI15D1F3UqBX8x8KH-4FQHnJp0jJUJEEE00KntH26gNuPdX0ENCLhSmsIF9bg9ObBc8iEyvgddCFmP8/s1600/IMG_0037.jpg" height="400" width="383" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last month we did a 30 day ab challenge and it REALLY helped with my running. I could really tell that I was becoming a stronger runner because of it. So, when our friend told us what the new 30 day challenge was we were all on board. This month's challenge includes squats, planks, push ups and crunches/sit ups. I can do all of them easy except the sit ups. I know it says crunches, but they do nothing for me. I've challenged myself this month to do sit ups instead and the goal is to do them with elementary school standards. Haha! You know, when you were in elementary school and everyone had to do the Presidential Fitness Test. That one... No using your arms to help with sit ups and no bouncing off the floor for momentum. That kind of sit up. It's not easy not using your arms to give you a little boost. I'm the one who usually starts with my hands behind my head and then ends up using them to get up. Haha! Not this time though! I'm on day 6 so far and I did all 45 sit ups today without using my arms. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All in all today I'm feeling really good about everything. :) I just can't let a bad run keep me down. </div>

I woke up at 3 AM with a major headache and thought nothing much of it besides a bad nights sleep or something. I took some Motrin and I ate some banana bread cause I was out of my normal oatmeal that I have before a race. I had my normal race morning nervousness. I met up with Joy at about 4:15 at the school where the buses were to take us up to the start. On the bus ride up my headache felt like it was getting worse, so I kept my eyes closed the whole ride up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We met up with some great running friends at the start and hung around until the race started. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Me and Joy at the start. She was freezing and I was trying not to puke. My nausea just kept getting worse. Joy's first thought was "maybe you're pregnant..." NO! I am not... hahaha. I just chocked it up to having a root beer float the night before. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There were a good amount of people there today. It was really great. They also had an early start for walkers and the marathoners. I love it when races have an early start! I didn't take it this time just cause I figured I would be fast and would make it in 2 hours 10 min or so. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We got in line behind the 2.10 pacer, Sonja. I really was hoping to hang out with her for a good part of the race. My goal was anything under 2.16 (my last PR). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started out great with Joy and she left me around mile 4 to use the Honey Bucket, and I kept going. I knew she'd catch up with me some time, but I didn't know when. Each aid station I'd get some water, but didn't drink much of it because of my stomach. I ate a couple chomps at mile 5 and mile 8, but I couldn't take as many as I wanted. I got to mile 8 before I started crashing. My stomach was KILLING me. I seriously felt like I was going to puke my guts out. My miles dropped from the 9's...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5yNRxpQY2dZgRY0FC5NKABuxZ8Bsx_ft7CR1CTC7MmTt5g_JBGBrKOmvay7nuxwBiB4mrUnvwv_l1jEGGdCTWYwEE5CAJdjzcelqFr1QpKoKCZy2wqei1RZPxVMIBzCxPkgcIRcg-As4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-07-20+at+6.49.00+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5yNRxpQY2dZgRY0FC5NKABuxZ8Bsx_ft7CR1CTC7MmTt5g_JBGBrKOmvay7nuxwBiB4mrUnvwv_l1jEGGdCTWYwEE5CAJdjzcelqFr1QpKoKCZy2wqei1RZPxVMIBzCxPkgcIRcg-As4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-07-20+at+6.49.00+PM.png" height="320" width="253" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Joy caught up with me around mile 8 or 9 in the neighborhoods and passed me up. She was on track for a 2.10 half. I kept wishing I could stay up with her. I saw the 2.20 pacers pass me and I could only stick with them for a couple hundred yards before I had to walk. Then towards the end in the last mile the 2.30 pacer, Susette caught up to me and I tried running with her for a half mile or so, but I just couldn't do it for the full mile. It was so great to see her though, she's always a big encourager. I finally made it to the track where we finished the last quarter mile. I walked in and finished the last .10 running. I was so out of it. My stomach was killing me. I just kept thinking "I shouldn't have had that root beer float!" Joy got a video of me crossing the line. I was pretty amazed how strong I looked considering how I felt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo0RVwkXwf_O76LBaJsuwIkRN7Akp4NpYUJlM3N-mIr2sWnHVw3a89EHJeDkAE-pCwC9M3XYtZSVLStfRAUqDyKPPsDgaWd6p2TlCbSBAtJr2_1kGUdCkAEbrag4F2QfZiOgQ7wlDm9Cw/s1600/IMG_0035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo0RVwkXwf_O76LBaJsuwIkRN7Akp4NpYUJlM3N-mIr2sWnHVw3a89EHJeDkAE-pCwC9M3XYtZSVLStfRAUqDyKPPsDgaWd6p2TlCbSBAtJr2_1kGUdCkAEbrag4F2QfZiOgQ7wlDm9Cw/s1600/IMG_0035.jpg" height="312" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Joy kept telling me to get something to eat, but the smell of the Chick-fil-A at the finish and the sight of the food just made me want to throw up even more. We picked up her drop bag and I got my Run The Slam medal for the race. I made it to the parking lot and had to sit down for a second. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlgdeQZYeMjlmXanJTQ3u9UBDpDlEillKm0XQHlUb6a9ZG4wro5rn_nCMF6y39YwmTOk3RlaME1YD_pLNVCH8XNmDlQTOgkeYmJCOIElVKFDmb1jP9q9x6QCdGUYIFTSGgEqqRjQ-cvGY/s1600/IMG_0032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlgdeQZYeMjlmXanJTQ3u9UBDpDlEillKm0XQHlUb6a9ZG4wro5rn_nCMF6y39YwmTOk3RlaME1YD_pLNVCH8XNmDlQTOgkeYmJCOIElVKFDmb1jP9q9x6QCdGUYIFTSGgEqqRjQ-cvGY/s1600/IMG_0032.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Joy got to her car and I sat in mine for a minute or two before I started to drive. I just wasn't sure if I would make it home without throwing up. I got out of the parking lot and to the stop sign where I pulled over and waited a minute before driving across the street to the gas station. I found an empty spot by the grass and dry heaved a few times before I felt like I could drive home. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I ended up getting about 5 miles from home when I had to pull over and throw up. I felt SOOOOOOO much better after that, but I still had a pounding head ache and I think I even had a bit of a fever. I came home and slept for 3 hours off and on. My Annabelle brought me this bell when I was laying in bed and said "Ring this if you need me, ok?" She's such a great kid. I ended up eating some chicken noodle soup for dinner and went to bed by 10. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiESyzmNe2J8Sc0khppu2m7_YlXnt7ffVVuFhIDCTd9FL7P0Mcde7HkXFeq3s2kq_IxUJkKgIl27kF41y8mdMbPm7UN0PRj6Ogr6vvGWKKynwMwsVRbrIrZe-R-O2y0eIPmDYVzKGGBbhc/s1600/IMG_0033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiESyzmNe2J8Sc0khppu2m7_YlXnt7ffVVuFhIDCTd9FL7P0Mcde7HkXFeq3s2kq_IxUJkKgIl27kF41y8mdMbPm7UN0PRj6Ogr6vvGWKKynwMwsVRbrIrZe-R-O2y0eIPmDYVzKGGBbhc/s1600/IMG_0033.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I slept for 10 and a half hours last night. I think I had heat exhaustion on top of the whole root beer float and stuff. Next time I'm going to get a LOT more rest and drink a LOT more water the week leading up to my race. I don't want that to happen again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The awesome thing about this race though is the fact that even with crashing like this I was able to still run it in a GREAT time! I remember this year when running a 2.30 was HARD and today I was able to do it on a really rough day. Earlier this year I would have easily done it in over 3 hours if the same thing happened. I've really reached a new level and I love it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think the nervousness I get before races is that when I bonk like this that I'll end up falling back to the 3+ hour races, but yesterday proves that I won't. I'm doing good and I just have to trust in my ability. </div>

I woke up at 3:15 on Saturday and ate my oatmeal. Mom, dad, and Joy were coming to pick me up so we could head down to Springville for the Hobbler Half marathon. Mom and I were going to do the relay and Joy was going to run the full thing. My plan was to run the first half with Joy and then at the meet up with my mom, I'd walk/run the rest of the way with her. </div>

Dad's such a good sport, getting up super early and driving us down there. He shakes his head at our crazy running adventures, but he's proud of us. He wears his "Wow! My wife and Daughters run marathons!" shirt every time. We need to add an S to that shirt. When we had the shirt made it was just me and ma who ran, but now my sister is in on it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We picked up our packets and numbers before catching the bus. Joy and I were on one of the first buses and mom and dad drove up to the meet up point for the relay. There were a good amount of people at the start and it was a little chilly, not too bad actually. It felt really good. I went to use the honey buckets before the race and boy did I get the wrong one... I've changed a TON of poopy diapers in my life, but this porta potty was smelling HORRIBLE! I almost threw up. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Joy and I got lined up and ready to run. We were between the 2:10 and 2:20 pacers. By the time we crossed the start line we were more in line with the 2:20 pacer and stuck with them for the first mile before we warmed up and ditched them. We were running really good at about a 9:45 pace for the first 5 miles. The relay point was about .75 miles early, so from mile 5.5ish-12.95 I ran/walked with my momma. I kept going back and forth on going ahead with Joy (I could have PR'd again), but I felt like I needed to stick with my mom. Plus I'll be running Timp this coming Saturday and that's the one I'm going to PR on. I kept thinking of this one as a training run. While running with my mom I discovered it's MUCH easier to run fast than it is to run slow for a long time. Sure, it takes a lot of effort to run fast, but to run slow you have to endure for a long time. </div>

Momma did great! We finished in 2.46! Go ma!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I felt amazingly strong this half. I've been doing one of those 30 day challenges for abs and I've been killing the sit ups. I REALLY think it helped a TON in this half. I could really feel my posture straighten out and my core stay strong while I ran. I felt like I was running with my legs vs my whole body, if that makes sense. I'll have to make sure to keep it up even after the challenge is over. Today I did 120 sit ups and 190 crunches and a 2 minute plank! I was amazed. :) </div>

Utah Valley Marathon was <a href="http://runmommatwitchrun.blogspot.com/2010/06/utah-valley-marathon.html" target="_blank">my first Marathon</a>. I really enjoyed it and wanted to run the half this time around. My mom was going to run it with me, but had to defer it for next year because she wasn't feeling too well after the Provo City half. And then it turned out that she wouldn't have been able to make it anyways since her mother passed away a couple days before. I ran thinking of both of them the whole time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got up super early and headed to catch the bus at the Provo Mall. I got on one of the first buses and was up at the start before a ton of people arrived. They had little fire pits set up for everyone. I'm so glad that I brought my giant sweater to keep warm. It's was really cool in the canyon. I met up with some running friends before the race and was planning on sticking with London, the one in the middle, who was going to be the 2.10 pacer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKgf0V15BWSiEaEAirwY_74PUUvQJqaP72mWvoIzq3l7ttGP5LEFGsMKUuYwxXX33Jf5R6EAlsBx1SMtTXM92LhddpiCbFu3pMAyYp_yHW3ywH62nuZs3dYLOExIYkTznMKatrhrviDfc/s640/blogger-image--1534911512.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKgf0V15BWSiEaEAirwY_74PUUvQJqaP72mWvoIzq3l7ttGP5LEFGsMKUuYwxXX33Jf5R6EAlsBx1SMtTXM92LhddpiCbFu3pMAyYp_yHW3ywH62nuZs3dYLOExIYkTznMKatrhrviDfc/s320/blogger-image--1534911512.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started down the canyon with her and got about 3 miles in before I fell back. I didn't want to push too hard too soon and bonk at mile 6. I wanted so bad to PR, but I also wanted to finish and finish strong. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFes6xTM_NX6cbhtbEIQkxGVrjz2ZVCvuZowwHzC5GpTXgEVSvjDIC9x7haAMIDZcudzatxaCww0QAQqbS_KISq42JNuW93AvIVYh0a5firLzi48h06LMduoJxz-BBGhEkWU6kf7_63D4/s1600/2014-Utah-Valley-Marathon-Half-10K-Kids1K-42418.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFes6xTM_NX6cbhtbEIQkxGVrjz2ZVCvuZowwHzC5GpTXgEVSvjDIC9x7haAMIDZcudzatxaCww0QAQqbS_KISq42JNuW93AvIVYh0a5firLzi48h06LMduoJxz-BBGhEkWU6kf7_63D4/s1600/2014-Utah-Valley-Marathon-Half-10K-Kids1K-42418.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I felt awesome going along and all the way til out of the canyon. I discovered that I do better when I hit an aid station and dump some of the water on my arms. It's an instant cool off and I feel like I can still push strong. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I brought some GU chomps to take at mile 5. I really like them. They're easier to get down than just regular GU, especially in the heat. I only ate a half a pack of them the whole race. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finish strong in 2.16!! Amazing!! I felt great and I got a new PR!! After the race I went back home, showered, and got the kids ready for the kids 1k. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They were so excited to run. The older 3 ran, while the younger 2 stayed with me. </div>

For a couple of months Brianna has been going to <a href="http://www.girlsontherun.org/" target="_blank">Girls on the Run</a> every week. It is a great program that teaches girls to be positive, confident, and all that great stuff while training for a 5k. Brianna is great at running short distances so, this was a fun experience for her. She had a practice run before today and ran the first quarter mile before having to walk because she went out way too fast. Today was a different story. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With Girls on the Run the girls have a running buddy and I got to be Brianna's for the 5k. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
There were a TON of people there. Brianna, Jason, Caleb, Annabelle, and I all went. It was at the Sugarhouse Park. It's a beautiful park. There was all sorts of fun things to do. Face painting, hair coloring, food, everything! Brianna had fun getting her hair colored green, pink, and purple. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We started out and with in the first 20 feet she was complaining of her legs being super tired. "We just started!" I said. Haha! We kept going and walked at the top of the hill. We did a walk run thing for the first lap then on the second half is when she really got into it. She ran really well and stopped at the aid stations. At the last corner that took us to the finish, she booked it down the hill passing everyone! I had to sprint to keep up with her! She ran hard and finished her first "official" 5k!! She did a great job! I'm really proud of her.</div>

I got up at 3 am, got ready, and caught a ride down to Provo with my mom and dad. My mom and I were planning on running the Provo City Half. She was going to take a little longer than I was so, after standing around for 2 hours (we caught the first bus) in the cold trying to inch our way into the circle of people around the little fire pits we parted ways when they were about to start. I was planning on going with the 2.30 pacer as long as I could like I had been doing with the past races. Mom was going to start at the end of the pack and was aiming for around a 3 hr half. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiziS-ihzQnRJ3LcJjmVIweKQktSJ5xYICeiJ-MMJ6LOoNdWTCnOP9Y8KfmCVuiaT2nOme-IePgg2wIiEmuXDxEfFQ_SMqMfAn-iT6YVRJe9RG7T_-83JNvJU29Rdpei0vEo6cL1btBAe0/s1600/IMG_5616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiziS-ihzQnRJ3LcJjmVIweKQktSJ5xYICeiJ-MMJ6LOoNdWTCnOP9Y8KfmCVuiaT2nOme-IePgg2wIiEmuXDxEfFQ_SMqMfAn-iT6YVRJe9RG7T_-83JNvJU29Rdpei0vEo6cL1btBAe0/s1600/IMG_5616.JPG" height="241" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made a last minute decision to run with the 2.20 pacer when I saw it was my friend <a href="http://susettefisher.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Susette</a> who was pacing it and <a href="http://running180.com/" target="_blank">Josh</a> was with her. I figured I could always drop back if I had to. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Things started out great and I was really surprised at how well I was feeling considering I was struggling the weekend before at the Thanksgiving Point half with all those hills. I'm sure it really helped that there was a big downhill with running in the canyon and all. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Around mile 2 Susette had to hand off the pacing sign to Josh and we ran together until Susette caught up a couple miles later. Talk about tough! I don't think I would have been able to do what she did. I think if I had to fall back like that I wouldn't have been able to run and catch up! Josh did an amazing job at pacing. He has an amazing story and is such a great guy. It was really nice running with him. He's so much taller than me so, it made me have to lengthen my stride and what I noticed was, it's SO MUCH EASIER! It's easier to run with a longer stride than the normal little trot I do. My legs felt good, my lungs felt good, and mentally I was totally in it. There was nothing holding me back... until mile 10ish.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Josh had to drop back around mile 9-10 and I was running along with Susette. We were on pace to be in a little before 2.20, but the mile markers were off by about .25, so we weren't 100% sure how much early we'd be in. Around mile 10 my legs kept telling me to walk. I pushed it until mile 11, where I walked through the aid station and continued running. I was warn out, but I could see the finish line and I knew I could make it under 2.30. Susette had gone ahead around mile 10 and I tried my hardest to keep her in sight. I knew I'd only be about 5 minutes behind her if I just kept moving. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I came up close enough to the finish line to see the clock I was shocked to see it was 2.18! I was totally going to get it under 2.20!!! I pushed it and finished in 2.20.22!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">I PR'd!! </span>I wasn't expecting to PR at all. I didn't go into this race thinking that I'd do anything other than stick with the 2.30 and hopefully the downhill would help me a little, but I wasn't expecting a PR at all!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a great race with great friends. Josh had me promise him when he dropped back that I'd PR and sure enough, I did!! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I called my mom when I was at mile 6 and she was at 4 and feeling good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Somewhere around mile 9 she hit a wall and it took her forever to finish the last 4 miles. I think a lot of it had to do with the heat and her not being dressed for it. She was dressed for the cool of the canyon, but not the hot of the road when you came out of the canyon. I was there with my dad, Jason, and a couple of their missionaries waiting on her to come in. She ended up finishing in 3.17.58. She was so tired and exhausted. She was going to run the Utah Valley Half with me, but decided to push it back to next year, which is a good idea. She'll be totally prepared by then. :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My next half is the Utah Valley Half. It's about the same course so, we'll see if I can PR again. I'm debating to running with the 2.10 pacer this time. We'll see what I do...</div>

This morning I got up and headed over to Thanksgiving point to run the Thanksgiving Point Half. I wasn't really sure what to expect since I haven't run this race before. I heard that there were some hills, but I had no idea. It was pouring rain and in the 40s so I knew I needed to stay warm unlike the Saltair Half where I about died because of the cold and rain/snow. I heard from some people that wearing a black trash bag was a great idea when it was cold and rainy. I didn't have time to run to walmart for a poncho, so a trash bag would have to do.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: x-small;">Aren't I pretty. Hahaha!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">This was at the very start. HUGE rain clouds that poured on us the whole time. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I figured I'd stick with the 2.30 pacer as long as I could since that is what I had been doing for the past few half marathons. I did good sticking with her until about mile 5 when the hills really kicked in. I couldn't keep up, so I went at my own pace. Hill after hill....after hill....after hill..... HOLY HILLS!! There were SO many and they weren't simple little hills. They were steep both down and up and they where TOUGH. I stuck with it, walked when I needed to, and made little goals for myself. I wanted to get to 10 miles as close to 2 hours as I could. I figured if I could do that I'd beat my last half marathon time of 2.48.30.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">This was around mile 5 of the race. I thought it was really fitting considering it was POURING rain.</span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made it to 10 miles and then I could hear the finish line. I couldn't see it, but I could hear it! I kept telling myself that I have done 3 miles before, that's nothing. I can totally run the last 3 miles. As I got closer and closer I kept telling myself to just keep going. I turned the corner and could see where everyone was turning into the finish. I ripped off the trash bag and finished the last mile feeling STRONG. I felt like I had a lot of gas still in the tank. </div>

My mom, dad, and I got up early and headed over to Riverton to run. I was running the half marathon and my mom was running the 5k. It was a really beautiful day. There was a bit of a wind and it was a little chilly, but it wasn't too bad. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">My mom and I before the race. It was a little chilly so I had my jacket on. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I met up with some new running friends before the race and figured I'd run with whoever was sticking with the 2.30 pacer. I met a new friend, Catherine and stuck with her and the 2.30 pacer until about mile 5. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Pic from around mile 4 or 5.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The mile markers were off by about half a mile so after a while it was really getting to me mentally. It was a really tough course for me just because of the markers and because I didn't really train for it. I walked and ran off and on for the last 8 miles. My little brother, Adam called me about mile 6 not knowing that I was running a half and was surprised. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I ended up finishing in 2.48.30. It was really challenging for me and I was glad when it was over. </div>

Today is weigh in day at WW and I'm hoping to lose some weight this morning, but you never know what will happen. I've worked out every day this week and I've hit over my 10, 000 steps every day for the past 9 days. You'd think it would make a difference today when I weigh in, but you never know.<br />
<br />
The sunrise was beautiful this morning and I enjoyed the time with my mom. She's doing really well and picking up her pace. She finished with 6.3 miles today. She's such an amazing lady! I'm really proud of her. I hope that when I'm 63 I'm still out there running.<br />
<br />
I'm getting to the point now where my body is naturally waking up around 6 every morning. I love that I'm getting to that point. It's really helpful when you know you should be out there running. If your body is naturally wake there's no way you can sleep in. My mind starts going and the angel on my shoulder always beats out the devil when I wake up naturally. On Saturday I was thinking I'd just sleep in, but the more I thought about it the more the angel on my shoulder kept saying "No! You need to get up. You NEED to get out there. You need this!" So, I got up and I went. It always feels good to get my exercise in. Plus, It's nice to get 3-4 miles in and see that you're already close to hitting your 10,000 steps for the day, so any more steps are just extra.Momma Twitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372034791390267228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-847616140660480002.post-62326613952235092152014-02-27T10:04:00.000-07:002014-02-27T10:04:09.490-07:00Even though I didn't want to...Last night I was debating on not going out to run since I was so tired, but I kept my alarm on anyway. I went to bed early and by 5:45 this morning I woke up to a little baby boy screaming cause of a bad dream. I figured it was close enough to my alarm going off that I'd just stay up and get dressed to run. I didn't really feel like it today. I was super tired and I was having some major cramps, but I went anyway. I switched up my route a little today and caught up with my momma halfway into my run.<br />
<br />
It turned out to be a good thing that I went anyway because my mom was thinking the same thing. She wanted to go back to bed, but saw me and decided to run rather than go back to sleep. She was able to hit a 12 something mile today! She did awesome! I ended up running 3 miles this morning. I'm glad I went out there and got it done. It's not going to make a difference in my heath and weight if I don't make it a habit and it won't become a habit unless I get out there and go even when I don't want to. If I didn't go today I would have made an excuse the next time and the next time and the time after that until I wasn't running anymore.<br />
<br />
<br />
I came across <a href="http://www.livylove.com/" target="_blank">this blog</a> yesterday that really got me motivated. She's lost 100 lbs in a year by exercising and eating right. I was doing that back when I started in 2009 and then had 2 babies which threw me off. But, now that I'm done having babies I can FOCUS on running and getting healthy. I can lose the weight I need and be the healthy, happy Cathy I deserve to be. I've been losing the same 5lbs since before October, something's gotta change and I'm going to make that happen!<br />
<br />
So far I've done great this week. I've gone out and exercised every day this week. I've upped my mileage by .25 each day. It's feeling good. Now, I need to throw in a little speed work here or there to help me progress. I know I can do the miles, it's a matter of making them quality miles and not just miles.Momma Twitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18372034791390267228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-847616140660480002.post-26196324094823690112014-02-24T08:03:00.002-07:002014-02-24T08:03:45.101-07:00Yes.<div style="text-align: center;">
I watched <a href="http://running180.com/2014/02/23/the-runners/" target="_blank">this</a> video about running and it made me remember why I ran. Why I'd get up early in the morning before anyone was awake and run more miles than anyone would normally think about. this morning I got up at 6 and headed out. I knew I wouldn't be able to do as much as my mind thought I could do, and I knew I didn't have the time to try anyway. I walked the first .25 and then ran the rest only stopping to get a picture of the sunrising.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
It felt good to <i>just</i> run. My legs felt great and my mind felt great. The time seemed to just pass as I ran. I didn't run fast. It was nothing more than a 14 minute mile, but still, I ran. I moved. I know my body and mind NEED to run. I know they NEED the exercise. It's my time to just think. Sometimes I'll use music, but today was a "talk with the Lord" kind of run. Everything is so silent it's easy to just listen. Early morning is the best time It's not always the easiest time to run and sometimes (most of the time) it doesn't even happen then. But, I know for me early morning before anyone else is awake. That's MY time. </div>

I got up and headed out to the Olympic Oval to run the Revolution Run. This race is pretty different from any race I've ever done. This one was inside on a track! Your bib had a chip on it, so every time you passed through the start your lap would be counted. I had my nike+ going at the same time since I figured I'd lose count after some time. This was a really easy going run. I took my time and ran around and around and around for 48 laps which equaled a half marathon. I think if I had to rank ways to run the treadmill would be the worst, then the track would be alright, and then outside would be the best. I like outside cause mentally its SO much easier than the treadmill. The track was nice cause the laps went fast, but the thing that's hard to judge is if your running on the outside lanes vs the inside lanes. If you're on the outside then you go farther per lap than those on the inside. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway... it was a good race. They had really yummy Swedish fish at their aid station, so that was a plus! I tried to meet some people, but I think I'm a little too quiet at first... Oh well. Would I do this race again? Probably not. If it's the only January race I'd do it again, but I wasn't a HUGE fan. </div>
